“NJROTC Scores BIG!! Congratulations to the NJROTC competition team who, this weekend, travelled to and participated in one of Florida's largest and most competitive JROTC “State-Sanctioned” field meets of the school year. Boca Raton, the 2009 National Champion “Runner Up” hosted the annual event on Saturday (the host does not compete). The team improved significantly over it’s 3rd Place finish at Mitchell High School in late October, where there were a field of twelve teams from around the state. At Boca Raton, there were eighteen teams, five of which are ranked in the top seven in the state. The Buc’s took home a well-deserved 3rd Place beating all but two of those ranked teams; Flanagan who placed second and an improving Winter Park team who won the overall title. The most significant accomplishment was beating Flanagan’s outstanding Academic Team for the first time in field meet competition. The only (academic) team left to beat in Florida is Boca Raton, who the Buc’s will face if we make it to the State Championship in March. Outstanding accomplishments were: 1st Place Overall in Academics; 2nd Place Overall in the 100m Relay; 3rd Place Overall in Personnel Inspection, Unarmed Basic Drill and Sit-Ups; and 4th Place Overall in both Armed Basic Drill and the 200m Relay. Individual awards included 1st Place Academics (Cody Boyet), 2nd Place Academics (Aaron Heusted), and 2nd Place Sit-Ups (Krystene Wills with 298 in the allotted time). The next state-sanctioned field meet will be against twenty-four teams at Tampa Bay Tech High School on January 16th. Please try to make that short trip to support this rapidly improving team!”
